Choosing a Groomer

It’s just a haircut, right?  Not really.  When you drop your best friend off at the salon, it’s a major event.  He or she will probably be there for several hours, and being away for that long can be stressful.  When you choose a groomer, keep this in mind.  Go meet the groomer and see what their business model is.  Are they focused on the “groom-factory” approach, focusing on volume for profit, or do they take a more personal approach?  Obviously, the latter is going to be better for your pooch.  Such groomers will work patiently with your pooch when they get stressed, resulting in a more enjoyable experience, and a happier dog.  Another important consideration, especially for a breed such as the highly-decorative Schnauzer, is experience with the breed.

Choosing a Veterinarian

Lots of care should be taken when choosing a vet for your pet’s needs.  Just as with any other family member, you need to choose a vet who will provide the best care possible for your furry loved one.  If possible, finding a vet close to home is great, especially when emergencies arise, but don’t choose a vet based solely on their location.  Also consider the vet’s hours of operation, which can also be important during an emergency.  Go meet the vet, and the staff, before making your decision.  Do your research, look for reviews on the web, ask your friends and family for recommendations.  Be on the lookout for vets that want you to sign up for a “wellness plan.”  Often, these are chain practices that are more focused on profit than the well-being of your pet.
